__TOC__
||
Having decided to move parts of UniCenter over to this Wiki I thought it would be a good idea to learn what a Wiki does.
|}
To achieve this I downloaded and installed MediaWiki on Uniform Server and hacked it around. This is my first attempt at a Wiki page.

The following instructions show you how to install MediaWiki on a clean version of 3.5-Apollo. It’s a personal server and will not be used online hence no need to change any of Uniform Server’s settings, its locked down and safe to use even when your PC is connected to the Internet.

== Preparation ==

Download MediaWiki extract and copy it to folder www details as follows:
#'''A)''' Create a new folder named mediawiki (can be any name you like)
# Download the latest version (1.12.0) of MediaWiki and save it to the above folder
## Download site: [http://download.wikimedia.org/mediawiki/ WikiMedia]
## File name: mediawiki-1.12.0.tar.gz
# Unzip the file. Windows cannot do this use something like 7-Zip Portable
## Download site: [http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities PortableApps.com]
## File name: 7-Zip Portable - Multilingual file archiver and compressor
# Extract mediawiki-1.12.0.tar.gz to current path, creates a new folder
mediawiki-1.12.0.tar open this folder '''B)'''.
# Extract mediawiki-1.12.0.tar to current path, creates a new folder
mediawiki-1.12.0 inside this is a second folder mediawiki-1.12.0 containing all the wiki files '''C)'''.
# Install a new version of Uniform Server 3.5-Apollo
# '''D)''' Copy folder mediawiki-1.12.0 '''C)''' to folder '''www''' (UniServer’s root folder)
# '''E)''' Rename mediawiki-1.12.0 to '''wiki''' note this makes it easier to type into a browsers address bar.
That completes the preparations.
Welcome to Uniform Server's Released, Currently In Development, Planned and Requested Plugins Archive. To create your own plugins, please view the [[Plugin Creation]] article.

== Released Plugins ==
==== AWStats ====
* Plugin Version + Release Date: 5.9 (24 December 2003)
* Plugin Description: AWStats is a powerful and featureful GPLed log file parser and analyzer, suitable for analyzing web server, streaming server, mail server and ftp server log files, and displaying the analysis results in a graphical manner. It is written in Perl and works either from the command line or as a CGI script. This plugin contains AWStats pre-configured to work with Uniform Server.
* Related Links: [http://awstats.sourceforge.net/ Official AWStats Website]

==== PHP4 ====
* Plugin Version + Release Date: 4.3.11 (2 April 2005)
* Plugin Description: Everyone should know what [[wikipedia:PHP|PHP]] is (as that's probably why you're using Uniform Server). Starting from Uniform Server 3.2, PHP5 is used by default. Some scripts may not support that version of PHP. This plugin allows users to downgrade from PHP5 to PHP4.
* Installation: Files are stored in a self-extracting archive. Extract all files, then follow the README.TXT instructions
* Related Links: [http://www.php.net/ Official PHP Website]
==== Quick 'n Easy FTP Server ====
* Plugin Version + Release Date: 2.6 (25 March 2005)
* Plugin Description: Quick 'n Easy FTP Server is a multi threaded FTP server for Windows 98/NT/XP that can be easily setup even by inexperienced users (who have no idea how to edit SlimFTPd's (the other FTPd Plugin we provide) configuration file). It handles all basic FTP commands plus a lot of special FTP commands like MDTM, NLST, FEAT and many more. The default configuration included with this plugin allows you to access your W:\ remotely.
* Plugin Notes: '''After installing, wait for the the Admin Tool to load, then go to "Show User Accounts" and change the admin password ASAP!'''
* Related Links: [http://www.pablovandermeer.nl/ftp_server_2_0.html Quick 'n Easy FTP Server's Official Website]

==== SlimFTPd ====
* Plugin Version + Release Date: 3.16 (25 March 2005)
* Plugin Description: SlimFTPd is a fully standards-compliant FTP server implementation with an advanced virtual file system. It is extremely small as it is written in pure Win32 C++ with no external dependencies and no messy installer. SlimFTPd is a fully multi-threaded application that runs as a system service on Windows 98/ME or Windows NT/2K/XP. The default configuration included with this plugin allows you to access your W:\ remotely.
* Plugin Notes:
# This plugin is for those who don't mind editing configuration files. If you don't fit in this category, use the Quick 'n Easy FTP Server Plugin instead.
# '''After installing, edit the "slimftpd.conf" file and change the admin username and password ASAP!'''
# Some users have reported that McAfee AntiVirus and Microsoft AntiSpyware detects this as a trojan. This is because SlimFTPd doesn't contain any GUI and can easily be installed on a remote PC without the user knowing it. We can assure you that is just a false alarm. If this bothers you, use the Quick 'n Easy FTP Server Plugin!!
* Plugin Description: Stunnel is a computer program, used to provide universal [[wikipedia:Transport Layer Security|TLS/SSL]] service. It can be used to provide secure encrypted connections for clients or servers that do not speak TLS or SSL natively. This plugin SSL-enables Uniform Server and can be started / stopped by accessing [http://localhost/a/plugins/Stunnel-4.05 this page].

To setup a subdomain on the Uniform Server, your best option is to use a [[VirtualHost]]. Once your VirtualHost is set up, you need to also configure your domain, normally with a CNAME entry, pointed to the same location as the root domain. This basically tells the DNS to direct requests to the subdomain to the same location as requests to the main domain. Therefore, both requests end up going to your Uniform Server.

Example DNS Records:
{| border="1"
|-
! HOST
! TYPE
! VALUE
|-
| example.com
| A
| 255.255.255.255
|-
| dev.example.com
| CNAME
| example.com
|}

This guide will show you how to install a Subversion (SVN) server with Uniform Server. This guide assumes that you have a clean installation of Uniform Server running currently and do not have another version of Apache installed on your PC.

== Installing SVN ==
# Download the latest Win32 SVN binaries from [http://subversion.tigris.org/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=91 here]. This guide uses the .exe Installer provided there.
# After installing / unpacking it, copy the contents of its httpd folder (usually C:\Program Files\Subversion\httpd) into Apache's module directory (Uniform Server's default is W:\usr\local\Apache2\modules)
# Copy libdb42.dll from the bin folder into the same module directory.

== Apache Module Configuration ==
# Edit Apache's configuration files (W:\usr\local\Apache2\conf\httpd.conf) and uncomment (remove the # from) this line if it is commented:
LoadModule dav_module modules/mod_dav.so

# Next find:
LoadModule dav_fs_module modules/mod_dav_fs.so
and add this below it:
<nowiki>LoadModule dav_svn_module modules/mod_dav_svn.so
LoadModule authz_svn_module modules/mod_authz_svn.so</nowiki>

== Configuring SVN ==
# Create an empty folder (I used W:\svn), which will used as repository root.
# Create another empty folder (for example W:\svn\test) in your repository root.
# Open the Command Prompt (or MS-DOS Prompt in Win 9x), cd into your repository root. Execute:
svnadmin create --fs-type bdb test
or
svnadmin create --fs-type fsfs test
''Note: test is the folder you created (under your repository root) earlier in Step #2; for more info on which fs-type to choose, read [http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.1/ch05.html#svn-ch-5-sect-1.2.A Chapter 5, Repository Data-Stores] in the SVN book for more information ''

== Integrating Apache + SVN ==
First, you should add this anywhere in your configuration file (preferably between "<IfModule mod_dav.c>" and "</IfModule>"):

<nowiki><Location /svn>
Dav svn
SVNParentPath /svn
AuthType Basic
AuthName "Subversion Repositories"
AuthUserFile /htpasswd/svn/.htpasswd
<LimitExcept GET PROPFIND OPTIONS REPORT>
Require valid-user
</LimitExcept>
</Location></nowiki>
''Note #1: If you do not want your repository to have read access for everyone (even those who do not have the password) remove the <LimitExcept>''
''Note #2: /svn is the path to your repository root, if you used any drive other than what Apache is on (Uniform Server default = W:\) for your repository root, you'll have to put the drive letter in front of the / (for example, C:\SVN becomes C:/SVN)''
Next, create the .htpasswd file which will store the username & password needed to modify your repositories. Open the Command Prompt again, cd into Apache's bin directory (W:\usr\local\Apache2\bin). Execute:
htpasswd -c .htpasswd <username>
To add more usernames & passwords, execute:
<nowiki>htpasswd .htpasswd <username></nowiki>
''Note: Replace <nowiki><username></nowiki> with the username of your choice.''
For more advanced configurations (not needed by many) view [http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/docs/TortoiseSVN_en/ch03.html Setting Up an SVN Server].

== Last Steps ==
# If you are using version 3.3, please skip to step 4.
# Create a "htpasswd" directory in the W:/ drive if you are using version 3.2 or less.
# Create a "svn" directory under the "htpasswd" directory.
# Copy the .htpasswd file into the "svn" directory.
# Now, the time you've all been for. Restart Uniform Server.
# Point your browser to http://localhost/svn/test (where test is the name of the repository you created earlier)

== Shortcuts ==
# If you do not understand how to make the .htpasswd file, you can just make the file and edit it with the contents "username:password" in the file.
== NEW Installing SVN on 4.3-Mona ==
The following assumes you installed US to C:\UniServer_4_3\UniServer.

If you installed to another location substitute paths accordingly.
=== How to install SVN ===
{|cellspacing="6"
|-valign="top"
|'''Run servers''' and check they function.
|Just a quick check, close servers after testing.
|-valign="top"
C:\UniServer_4_3\UniServer\udrive\'''svn_tools'''

C:\UniServer_4_3\UniServer\udrive\'''svn'''
|You can choose different names and locate these outside of the UniServer folder.
However we are placing these here for portability.
Folder '''svn''' will contain your SVN repositories.
|-valign="top"
|3)
|Download File: '''svn-win32-1.6.3.zip''' or newer.

Located at the bottom of this page: [http://subversion.tigris.org/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=8100 '''tigris.org''']

To folder C:\UniServer_4_3\UniServer\udrive\'''svn_tools'''

Folder svn_tools will now contain folders '''bin''', '''iconv''', '''licenses''',
'''share''' and file '''README.txt'''
|Once copied if you wish to save space delete the extracted files
and svn-win32-1.6.3.zip they are no longer required.
|-valign="top"
* libsvn_subr-1.dll

To: C:\UniServer_4_3\UniServer\udrive\usr\local\apache2\'''bin'''
|The above two modules have dependencies (dlls),

Apache resolves dependences by first looking in

its bin folder and then looks along system paths.

Generally these dlls are located on a system path

however we want a portable installation hence they

are copied to Apache’s bin (binary) folder.
|-valign="top"
LoadModule dav_fs_module modules/mod_dav_fs.so

|Configure Apache to use the subversion module.

First check these modules are enabled.

Note, mod_dav.so is enabled by default.

|-valign="top"
|8)
|At the end of load modules section add these two lines:

LoadModule dav_svn_module modules/mod_dav_svn.so
LoadModule authz_svn_module modules/mod_authz_svn.so
|The two lines inform Apache to load the svn modules.
Add them just below:
LoadModule vhost_alias_module modules/mod_vhost_alias.so
|-valign="top"
|At the end of httpd.conf, add the following block of code.

<location /svn>
DAV svn
SVNListParentPath on
SVNParentPath C:/UniServer_4_3/UniServer/udrive/svn
</location>

|

* '''svn''' Top level folder name <nowiki>http://localhost</nowiki>/svn/*** any name after svn is assumed a repository request and passed to DAV for resolving
* '''DAV svn''' Instructs Apache to pass the request onto the DAV layer for processing as a subversion (svn) request.
* '''SVNListParentPath on''' Enables listing of all repositories for URL <nowiki>http://localhost</nowiki>/'''svn'''
* '''SVNParentPath''' Absolute path to the parent folder containing all the repositories.
'''''Note'':''' If you move the servers this path must be changed.
|}
'''''[[#top | Top]]'''''
=== Testing SVN server ===
* Restart Servers
* Access the SVN repository. Type the following into a browser '''<nowiki>http://localhost/svn</nowiki>'''
Page displays

Collection of Repositories
page Powered by Subversion version 1.6.3 (r38063).

This confirms Apache has been configured correctly. Next step is to create an SVN repository.

'''''[[#top | Top]]'''''
=== Creating a repository - Command line ===
To create a repository use the command line tool '''svnadmin.exe'''

This section shows how to create a repository using this tool and how to add a working project.

'''''[[#top | Top]]'''''
==== Batch file ====
The admin tools requires opening a command prompt and navigating to the svn_tools executables folder .

This I find very tedious hence create the following batch file in folder C:\UniServer_4_3\UniServer\udrive\svn_tools\'''bin'''

Name the batch file whatever you like I have named it '''z_start_svn_command_prompt.bat''' add the following content:

start "SVN COMMAND PROMPT" cmd.exe /k "COLOR B0"

Double click to run, a new command prompt is opened and the working folder is automatically set.

'''''[[#top | Top]]'''''
==== Create a repository ====
You need to create at least one blank repository choose a name that matches your project for this example I will use “'''myproject'''”

Run the batch file above and type the following command:

svnadmin.exe create ..\..\svn\myproject

* '''svnadmin.exe''' Runs the subversion administration program.
* '''create''' Is the command to be run by svn admin. It creates a repository named '''myproject'''.
** '''''Note'':''' You can specify an absolute path or a relative path to the folder '''myproject'''.
For example:
Absolute: '''C:\UniServer_4_3\UniServer\udrive\svn\myproject'''
Relative: '''..\..\svn\myproject''' - as shown above
* If the folder '''myproject''' does not exist it is created. Adds subversion database and tracking folders.

'''''[[#top | Top]]'''''
==== Repository Access ====
Start the servers. To access repositories type either of the following into a browser:

# '''<nowiki>http://localhost/svn/</nowiki>''' -- Displays Collection of Repositories page.
## All repositories in folder '''svn''' are listed as links.
## Currently we have just one repository hence a single link “myproject” is displayed
## Click this link to display “myproject” repository.
## If you do not want all repositories listed comment this line as shown: '''#SVNListParentPath on'''
Accessing '''<nowiki>http://localhost/svn/</nowiki>''' will now produce ''Forbidden You don't have permission to access /svn/ on this server''.
## You can still access a repository by entering its full URL see below.

#'''<nowiki>http://localhost/svn/myproject/</nowiki>''' -- You directly access a repository by name as shown for "“myproject”.
Viewing this repository with a browser you will find it empty.
However view the same folder using '''Windows Explorer''' displays several SVN suport folders and files.
## '''''Folders'':''' '''conf''', '''dav''', '''db''', '''hooks''' and '''locks'''
## '''''Files'':''' '''README.txt''' and '''format'''
## Never edit or delete the above folders or files. They tag and track all changes in a repository.

'''''Note'':'''

SVN comes complete with several other command line tools including a '''command line client'''.

'''''[[#top | Top]]'''''
=== Command line client ===
Starting with an empty repository you probably want to quickly set it up and publish your current project as it stands.

The following shows a quick way to do this it also includes SVN’s recommended folder structure.

# Create a temporary folder for example '''C:\a_svn_temp'''
# Inside this create three new folders (SVN recommended) named:
## '''trunk'''
## '''tags'''
## '''branches'''
# Copy your current stable project into folder '''trunk''' -- Note: For testing I copied folder C:\UniServer_4_3\UniServer\udrive\'''plugins'''
# '''Start''' servers
# Run batch file '''z_start_svn_command_prompt.bat''' (whatever you named it)
# Type the following:

svn.exe import C:\a_svn_temp http://localhost/svn/myproject -m "Initial import"

This updates your repository with new folder structure and project.

View repository, type into browser <nowiki>http://localhost/svn/myproject</nowiki>

* The project page and status are displayed '''myproject - Revision 1:'''

'''''Note'':''' If you do not include '''-m "Some text"''' SVN will complain about not being able to find a text editor.
I have always advocated go in hack Uniform Server around and break it. This little chap is the result of a session where I could not resolve the reason why I broke it. I decided to animate his eyes and antenna serves as a reminder not to go in heavy handed.
|}
This page contains a few tips that will assist you in debugging on Uniform Server.

== What’s my IP? ==
There are many on line services that will provide your IP address for example click this link:
[http://www.whatsmyip.org/ Whats My IP] you cant miss it, top right big and bold.

On the above page try the “More Info About You” link.

== Checking your server is externally accessible ==
You have popped your servers on-line and wondering if they are accessible from the Internet. Google translate is ideal for this, in order to translate a page it needs access to your servers (Exactly what we need and fully automated.).

# Go to Google Translate page: [http://www.google.com/translate_t Google Translate]
# Select '''Text and Web''' top menu bar ('''''Automatically selected''''' for you)
# Bottom of page you will find a text field '''Translate a web page''' enter a valid address for your page:
## It accepts IP addresses for example <nowiki>http://89.007.251.102/test/index.html</nowiki>
## Or domain names for example: <nowiki>http://fred.com/test/index.html</nowiki>
# Select any language from the drop down list.
# Click Translate
## '''If the page is accessible it is translated.'''
## If its not accessible a blank page is displayed.

Quick and effective that’s what I like.

'''''[[#top | Top]]'''''

== Apache not starting - httpd.conf syntax check 1 ==
If you have made changes to Apache configuration file '''''httpd.conf''''' and find Apache no longer runs the chances are you made a typo? Apache will not run if there is a syntax error in the configuration file however the virtual drive (default '''W''') may have been created if so you can use the following to check for syntax errors:

Open a command prompt ('''run''' > type '''cmd''' > click '''Ok''')

''' In the pop-up window type the following shown in bold: '''

C:\Documents and Settings\fred>'''w:'''

W:\>'''cd usr\local\apache2\bin'''

W:\usr\local\apache2\bin>'''apache.exe -t'''

Syntax OK

W:\usr\local\apache2\bin>

This will run Apache and check the configuration syntax.

*'''w:''' Selects the virtual drive change this if using a different one

*'''cd''' Move to folder where the Apache program is

*'''apache.exe -t''' Runs Apache with test flag -t

Any syntax errors will be reported.

'''''[[#top | Top]]'''''

== Apache not starting - httpd.conf syntax check 2 ==
If Apache fails to start its more than likely the virtual drive will not be created. The following batch file will create a virtual drive and test the syntax. This batch file may be run with or without the servers running.

Save the following to a file named '''uc_apache_syntax.bat''' place the file in folder '''Uniform Server''' double click to run.

:Batch file to check Apache configuration syntax
:Creates a virtual drive if it does not already exist
:Optionally removes the virtual drive created
:Place in folder ”Uniform Server” with other bat files
'''''Notes:'''''

*You may run this file even when the servers are running.

If the servers are not running a virtual disk drive is created the default is “W” if you are using a different disk change the line: set '''Disk=W''' accordingly.

The next lines run the apache command '''–t''' to verify the configuration file syntax

Note: Command -t must be run from the virtual drive and not from where Uniform Server was extracted otherwise the following error is generated:

:'''''Syntax error on line 69 of G:/0_1/Uniform Server/udrive/usr/local/apache2/conf/h ttpd.conf: ServerRoot must be a valid directory'''''

Hence these lines are required in the batch file they change the working disk and directory:

:'''%Disk%:'''

:'''cd usr\local\apache2\bin'''

The remaining lines provide an option to remove the virtual drive created.

* If the drive already created (servers running) prior to running '''uc_apache_syntax.bat''' do not use it to delete the drive otherwise you will be unable to shutdown the servers (just means you will need to kill the processes manually).

* If you are performing a syntax check without running the servers then delete the virtual drive otherwise the servers will not start when using Server_Start.bat
== Apache - Log files ==
Apache logs all its transactions to the following file access.log and errors to '''error.log''' these are located in folder:

'''*\Uniform Server\udrive\usr\local\apache2\logs'''

when debugging Apache problems make this your first port of call .

'''''[[#top | Top]]'''''

== Mod Rewrite - Log file ==
Logs all Mod Rewrite transactions to a file using “RewriteLog” and “RewriteLogLevel” directives. These instructions cannot be placed in an htaccess file they must be placed in Apache’s main configuration file httpd.conf preferably in a Vhost.

'''RewriteLogLevel 9'''

</VirtualHost>

*'''RewriteLog:''' Sets the log file name to which the server logs all rewrite transactions.(use any name you like)

*'''RewriteLogLevel:''' Sets the log level. Maximum log level is "9" will log almost all-rewriting transactions a setting of "0? will disable rewrite logging. Choose a value that best suits your needs, try a value of “3 or 5”

*'''Note:''' The log file rewrite.log will be found in folder: *Uniform Server\udrive\usr\local\apache2\logs

'''''Note:''''' Only enable these lines while testing do not use on a live server because logging will quickly eat your disk space. Comment out the lines (by placing # at the start of the line) or delete after testing, you may also wish to delete the log file (rewrite.txt).
I've added someting to the page inwhich from what I've experienced by users around me which use Uniform Server have problems with.

The problem was that some users' firewalls were interfering. When this happened the users I delt with had no idea what to do or look for due to the server running fine, just that the firewall was blocking it, so no error message for them. I've added something a little short that should point them in the right direction in order to get the problem solved.
Doughttps://wiki.uniformserver.com/index.php?title=Talk:Main_Page&diff=4486Talk:Main Page2010-11-18T15:34:54Z
Doug: rv: Undo spam

== XP firewall ==

hello all, i had a few problems on XP sp2 with the firewall. I found that using these commands i can open and close the ports. Can only get this to work when installed as a service tho.

netsh firewall show state
pause
netsh firewall add portopening TCP 80 MyWebPort
pause
netsh firewall delete portopening TCP 80
pause
netsh firewall show state
pause

== XP Firewall reply ==

those are probably real commands for windows. it does not have anything to do with our server. whether or not the port is open on ur pc is up to you and not for the program to keep secure. ports are open for public sites so outside source can see them.

thanks
